2月4日，正值二十四节气之始，第24届冬季奥林匹克运动会（The 24th Olympic Winter Games）在北京隆重开幕。想必很多人都被精彩绝伦的开幕式（opening ceremony）震撼到了。开幕式的倒计时以中国二十四节气（24 solar terms）的时间推进，最后一秒留给了立春（Beginning of Spring），寓意各国朋友共同迎接一个新的春天。绝美的二十四节气倒计时每一帧都让观众记忆犹新，中国式浪漫你get到了吗？

China Daily  在报道中用了动词 begin 表达冬奥会开始，简洁明了。

The Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games opening ceremony began at the National Stadium in Beijing on Friday.

CGTN（中国环球电视网）在报道中使用的是kick off 来表示开始、开幕。

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games kicked off on Friday with the opening ceremony taking place at the National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest.

奥林匹克官网在报道中也使用了kick off 来表达冬奥会开始的意思。

The XXIV Olympic Winter Games kicked off in spectacular fashion with a stunning Opening Ceremony at the Beijing National Stadium.

《卫报》在报道中使用的是under way表示开始, 在进行中。

under way (也可以合在一起写成underway)表示「已经开始的，正在进行的」(If an activity gets under way, it starts.)

e.g.Economic recovery is already under way.

get/be underway 是外刊中很常见的搭配

e.g.An investigation is underway to find out how the disaster happened. 

一项调查正在进行，以查明这场灾难是如何发生的。

underway还有另外一个值得大家注意的用法，表示“XX正在做某事，XX正在采取行动”时，可以用 efforts are underway to do sth 这个表达方式，比 XX are trying to do sth 更加地道，也更高级。

e.g. Efforts are under way to avoid a £ 800,000 overspend. 

 开始采取措施以避免出现80万英镑的超支。

 Rescue efforts are underway to find the lost climbers.

 寻找登山者的救援工作已经开始。

《纽约时报》和《海峡时报》在相关报道中也都用了kick off 表示北京冬奥会开始，而且从这这个报道中，我们发现kick off 的用法非常灵活，也可以作为及物动词来用，后面跟宾语，即主语+kick off +宾语。

 01来源与引申

kick off 来源

其实kick off 源自于足球。每场正式的比赛开始时，都要从球场中间圆心处开球（kick- off）。

kick off 引申

后来，这个足球术语逐渐引入到商业中，引申为“开始做某事”。在商业新闻中，我们常常会看到kick-off。比如kick-off meeting和kick-off party，根据上面的解说，kick-off meeting 可以译为“项目启动会”。kick-off party 则可以译为“项目启动聚会”。

 02与kick-off的区别

有同学会有疑问，咱们讲的是kick off，那以上的kick-off与kick off有什么区别呢？

 其实二者只有词性的区别嗷，kick off是一个动词词组，kick-off是一个名词。词义等同。通常都可以翻译为（足球赛等的）开球，（比赛、会议等的）开始。
